Careers Information and Guidance

Students in Key Stage 3 and 4 receive careers guidance through PSHE and aspects of careers education are delivered across the curriculum. Key Stage 4 students also receive independent careers guidance, provided by NewMango, through group and 1 to 1 sessions, alongside timetabled careers lessons.

The Lead for Work Related Learning at St Matthias Academy is Mrs Julie Price. Contact details are available here (jprice@stmatthiasacademy.org.uk) and under the Contact Us link at the top of the screen, should you require more information about the content of the careers programme.

Independent Careers Guidance & Progression Coaching

Jo Newman from NewMango is an Independent Careers and Progression Adviser who works with St Matthias to ensure that all students receive independent one-to-one careers interviews and follow-up meetings to advise and track progress. We feel it is very important that young people have the support that is available when making choices about what to do after they leave school. With the requirement for young people to stay in Education or Training until they are 18, students need to consider the different pathways and options available.  Jo is available for students to work on their plan on a regular basis, to try and establish a suitable progression route and give as much support and guidance to the student and their parent/carer as required.

Personal career guidance can support students’ persistence, motivation and confidence and help them to see how they can overcome any barriers that prevent them from moving forwards.

NewMango is a collaboration of highly skilled and professionally qualified practitioners in Careers Education, Information, Advice & Guidance.

Our ethos is to support all individuals to move forward successfully into education, employment or training.

We aim to raise the aspirations and motivation of individuals as well as develop their personal effectiveness, resilience and employability skills by providing high quality independent and impartial careers guidance and progression coaching. We specialise in working with vulnerable young people to remove barriers to achieving their career aims and life goals. NewMango works in partnership with schools and other organisations as well as individual referrals for 16-25 years old who require careers guidance and support to progress to the next stage of their education, employment or training goals.
